Super Fabby Tastic January 6, 2009 Ms. Janice Kenny (Fife Scotland) Arrived today for my daughter which she bought with her christmas money! Its Fab!! and so easy to set up and go!!! She's loving it! I want one!! LOL Excellent little lap top! well done acer!!!
Just brilliant! January 5, 2009 Helena (England) I would like to thank all the people who recommended this model on here. I debated whether to get the hard drive version, and don't usually go for the cheapest model available, but in this case there seemed no point in paying for bits you don't need. I think you have to carefully consider what you want this machine to do. For me, all I am going to use is the internet surfing, email, instant messaging and photo storage. The flash memory is plenty big enough for all that.
I've only had it a few hours and would like to point out a few things. 1. The screen is perfectly big enough, for example to view Youtube, and as I wear reading glasses it's simple to increase the print size. 2. Whole internet pages fit easily with no sideways scrolling. 3. The touchpad is excellent, very responsive, and the side buttons are no problem. 4. The machine is running really quietly, no fan noise as some people reported. 5. The Linux OS is dead easy to use - who wants to bother with Windows, Norton and the extra expense? 6. The iMSN messaging is great, just as easy to use as the 'real thing', with all my contacts accessible. 7. There's a link to hotmail built in, so I haven't bothered to configure my other email account yet.
So far so good. It's a fantastic little machine. And I'm glad I chose the white version as the keyboard is really clear.
I'm thrilled to bits with it - every woman should have one in her handbag!
Great little machine, but is it reliable ? December 31, 2008 Alan Barnstable (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought the Aspire One A110 for the wife for Christmas. All worked fine for 3 days, then suddenly it wouldn't connect to the wireless network as it had previously. The little icon at the bottom of the screen has disappeared, and if you clicked on the Network Center icon nothing would happen. A friend in the office had exactly the same problem, but as an IT professional and help from the internet was able to fix it in the operating system. I found another user on the internet who had also had the same problem. I was not comfortable with trying to fix it myself, and sent it back to Amazon to be replaced. Amazon's return procedures are excellent, and the old one was collected, and the new one delivered within 2 days. New one appears OK, but we'll see !
Acer Aspire One A110 December 28, 2008 R. Young (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Lovely looking netbook, quality build and looking at the specs and times everything seems OK. I bought two for my daughters at Christmas and they loved them.........Until that was they went on messenger and it had a protocol issue and wouldn't work. I went on Acer's site which is completely useless as is all the info that comes with the 'one'. Went on the forums which said to update the software, which I did, but that kept failing(on both). Eventually reinstalled linpus from a USB drive and then updated twice, which took about 12 hours. Eventually everything was working and once again my daughters loved them. After spending years working on Windows PC's linux is completely different and a lot more difficult. Bottom line is they're great when working but a pain when not. If the windows version was SSD and cheaper I'd go for that. Acer could do with updating their support for this netbook so people didn't have to rely on forums. Their supplied DVD for backup is sooo out of date and there's no updated DVD to download.
Don't install XP December 22, 2008 Jamie Chalmers (Glasgow, Scotland) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
A heed of warning to those with intentions of installing XP.
Acer distributed this notebook with a less than quality SSD. However it was distributed with Linux which is fine however if you try installing XP i would recommend against it.
The machine will run dreadfully slow and take 2 mins in comparison to 10seconds installating say, mozilla firefox.
Partially down to the way windows os runs (even after tweaks) this still runs slow due to the low grade SSD.
Personally i'd recommend the aspire with 1gb memory and 120gb hdd. - it IS worth the extra
