I bought this all in one to replace the ageing CX3200 which just died, but only after about 4 years hard work.

I have had no trouble with this at all - easy to set up with user friendly software. I am using Aldi's compatible carts and I don't have a hint of the infuriating blocked jet problems I had with the old printer. I find all the features great and easy to use. It does use quite a lot of ink, but who cares when compatible carts are so cheap and work fine.

I can't believe people are criticising Epson not wanting to look at the printers when they have compatible carts installed - what do you expect? Epson sell their printers at below cost price, then make up the profit on carts. All manufacturers do it - it's the way of the world; so they're not going to embrace you if you have other carts installed, are they? The other thing from their point of view is that they have no control over quality of compatibles, which really can cause damage. As the printers are so cheap, I personally don't mind risking it.

I think it's a good idea that the printer stops when one of the carts needs changing as it prevents the ink track drying up by further use. the old CX3200 did this too, but did give you the option to carry on - which I did - and on reflection caused by blocked jet problems I recon. No problem on this one though.

Pros. Excellent dependable service, straight forward software which works! Quick scanner warm up, no complaints. Keep a spare set of carts and you'll be fine.

Cons. Bit noisy, makes you jump when it bursts into life.

Overall. Well satisfied.

3 out of 5 stars The ink is a problem   December 6, 2008

I have had this printer a while now and in all honesty I have used it very little. From what I have seen it prints photos to a reasonable quality and it is also pretty quick. Unfortunately though I have already run out of ink which is very disappointing as I don't feel that I have used the printer enough yet. I have read that many other people have complained about the short lifespan of the ink and I now have to agree with them. It must be said that the replacement cartidges are very expensive especially if you are going to use the official Epson ones.

This is a good quality printer but the fact that it does seem to drain your ink quickly might well be a problem. I don't regret buying it but hope that the ink issue is just a one off but somehow I doubt it.

This is my fourth Epson printer but the first All-in-One. It is very noisy, much worse than my earlier printers and I have been unable to Scan and Save to File with it because the system will not respond in the manner that the Manual says it does. It has presently crashed because the paper feed malfunctioned and a sheet of A4 disappeared into the innards with paper crumpling and tearing noises. The LCD display tells me there is a fault and recommends that I consult the documentation - regrettably there is nothing there that tells me how to get a sheet of paper out of the inner workings. I was ready to replace it anyway.
I don't recommend this model and I am presently undecided about a replacement - earlier Epsons gave good service but this one is a dog and I don't know whether or not later models are any better.

Bought this a couple of weeks ago. Delivery faultless but it was a few days before I had the opportunity to install it. Got to the bit of the instructions where it told me to connect the USB cable. What USB cable? There isn't one. An enquiry to Amazon elicited the response that this printer is not supplied with the cable. So a week or so later I am still waiting for the opportunity to use my new (and vital to my work) printer.

OK - I admit it. I'm over 60 and therefore shouldn't be allowed out with a computer. But I've never before had to provide the USB cable separately. I would have welcomed the information that it was required before I bought the printer.
