A good purchase December 31, 2008

Just wanted to add my positive comments to those already here, which helped me decide to purchase this particular printer. My scanner is fine so I didn't want a 3-in-1 machine to replace everything and only print B&W docs.
It set up without trouble to a Windows XP machine, there was no swearing, rebooting or prayers offered up to the IT Gods for help at all. First page printed off fine, dozen or so more without trouble. I used the USB cable from my scanner as there isn't one provided with the printer, which is a bit mean.
This replaces my ten year old inkjet model, and fingers crossed, it feels like a good decision. If you're just after a simple way to printer letters or other B&W documents, this seems to be a decent option, especially after having a very slow inkjet for so long!

This printer is not compatible with Windows Vista 64bit which has been out since the release of vista. 64bit is the next generation of computing so the fact no driver has been released may indicate that this printer is not future proofed, ie it may not work if you plan to buy a computer in the future.
I bought this printer 6 weeks ago, and upgraded to Vista 64bit after running the microsoft tool which said all drivers were compatible. I regret buying this printer as everything else works fine. A complete waste of my money and/or time.

Ordered this printer on the 27th November, and received it on the 3rd December. Thanks again to Amazon for their delivery times.
Unpacked it and had it up and running with 15 minues (after I had remembered to switch the printer ON!). This is very good value and ideal for home office and personal use.

Having grown sick and tired of ink-jet printers, I decided to have a look at lasers and was pleasantly surprised by the price of the P1005. I only need basic black and white capabilities, and thanks to the previous reviewers' comments, it was a bit of a no-brainer when it came to making a decision! I'm not disappointed.
The P1005 doesn't take up much room, it look fairly solid, the software is quick and easy to install (I'm running Windows XP) and the print quality is excellent. Okay, it's a bit noisy (but no more so than my ink-jet) and the paper does warp very slightly (I haven't tried better quality paper yet - so maybe it's just down to the cheap brand I've been using so far) and it doesn't come with the necessary USB cable. However, in terms of value for money, I couldn't be happier.
