For us the picks of the bunch were the iTrip and the TuneCast 3. While the iTrip offers a significant financial saving -- something that earned it a lot of points -- the simplicity and wider compatibility of the TuneCast won our hearts in equal measure. You'll need to make a choice between cost and usefulness as both devices performed equally well. For those naysayers out there you've maybe had some bad luck in the past. We've discovered that good FM transmitters are out there and we stand behind the iTrip and the TuneCast 3 all the way. Until next time radio nerds...

4 out of 5 stars Good for the money   January 9, 2009
Richard Preston (Reading, UK)
Couldn't be easier to set up. I was slightly disappointed with the sound initially, since I expected it to be near CD quality. This was probably unrealistic on my part, and the lack of quality, once you're used to it, is more than adequately compensated for by the convenience of having the equivalent of twenty times the number of CDs the CD changer holds.

I've been less lucky with interference than others seem to have been (this could be the fault of the radio though), and I eventually unscrewed my aerial from the roof to prevent broadcast stations breaking in, putting the iTrip as near to the radio as possible. Since then, absolutely no interference at all. Of course, I can't listen to the radio now, but I rarely did anyway.

One minor annoyance is that turning the car ignition on when the iPod is playing seems to make the iTrip retune itself to another frequency (107.9), and for some reason my radio will not tune to the iTrip on that frequency. Weird.

My one regret about buying this is its dependence on the cigarette lighter socket for power; there are plenty of times when I'd like to use the iPod with one of the many portable radios we have about the house, and obviously can't. On reflection, I'd rather have had complete portability at the expense of having the iPod charger.

Never having used another iPod FM transmitter, I don't know how this compares, but until I'm able to get a radio that has a direct wired link between the iPod and the rest of the system, it will certainly do. Just don't expect too much of an audiophile experience!

1 out of 5 stars Does not charge ipod touch   January 8, 2009

If all you want it to do is transmit to your radio then no complaints. But if you want it to charge your ipod touch as well then forget it it does NOT.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad...   December 29, 2008

Warning! - works but doesn't charge 4th Gen Ipod Nano! Otherwise it does its job and sound quality is ok

4 out of 5 stars iTouch G2   December 29, 2008
Alan Bezzant (London)
This is a great bit of kit. Very easily set up and provides really good quality reception with no distortion. Much, much better than a cheaper unit that this has replaced. (It's the usual story - pay a bit more and get quality.) My only gripe is that it will not charge the iTouch while it's in use and connected to the cigar lighter socket - charging is not supported. Hell's teeth, why do Apple do this? Really annoying, but I can live with it. Just shouldn't have to.

1 out of 5 stars It probably works...   December 7, 2008

It is probably a good product... Unfortunately it doesn't work with the Ipod Touch 2nd Generation and it wasn't obvious on the product description...
