Apple iPod Touch 32 GB 1st Generation December 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think this is a very good product by Apple. My Dad is amazed by its features and applications. Here are the reasons to buy.
-You can download music, podcasts, and applications on the go as long as you are within an internet connection range.
-Has an internet browser handy.
-Has its own built in YouTube player.
-Email from your iPod Touch
-Manage your contacts, notes, and calender on the go.
-And it all just simply looks awesome!
IPod Touch a considred view October 6, 2008 A. Taylor (Ash, England) Excellent bit of kit, I wouldn't be without it. Really good range on the wifi side, I've connected no probs at about 50 metres. Battery life not brilliant but OK. Only big dissapointment is the lack of stereo bluetooth, come to think of it there is no Bluetooth at all which is a major ommission, hence 4 stars.
Great device, as long as you conform. September 10, 2008 Chris Harding (London) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
On the plus side, the ipod touch is a triumph in its design and operation. Although their markets are not the same, by comparison Sony's PSP (a similar device in some ways) feels old and clunky. I only mention this because when I bought my PSP, relatively recently, I was unable to imagine how anything could appear more futuristic. The itouch battery life isn't great if you're browsing the web, but then again I have never used any Wi-Fi device with a battery life over a few hours for constant browsing.
So, I would be giving a 5 star review if it weren't for Apple's infuriating policies on software.
First and foremost, I paid close to 300 for this thing, so I don't expect to also have to shell out a fiver every time there's a software update! It really is most heinous (and greedy) of them.
Secondly, there is no support (at time of writing) for Flash or Java. I must admit this has only proven a mild irritation in the many hours of web browsing I've racked up, but still it seems an odd omission.
Thirdly, Apple's policy on third party software is rather draconian. They say they're protecting you from malicious attack. I say they're censoring me. I'm an adult, I can make my own decisions about what software I buy and run and I can deal with the consequences. A disclaimer would suffice.
Lastly, the device is tied inextricably to itunes, which is a horrendous behemoth of a program. I can live with this for managing my MP3's, but I'd like to be able to use my ipod as a portable HDD, which is sadly impossible as it doesn't show up in 'My Computer'.
In conclusion, if you're happy playing Mr.Jobs' way, go ahead and buy one of these. But if you want to do anything he didn't prescribe, don't be surprised when he takes his ball home.
rip-off on software update September 9, 2008 F. Schlindwein (Leicester, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Apple iPod touch 32GBGood, but I bought it last week and it still came with version 1.5 of the software. Apple wants another 5.99 to update to version 2. I am disappointed that it did not come with the latest software (or at least that Apple offered the update for free). They already got a lot of my money and now they want more!
Absolutely love it! August 21, 2008 Music/Book/Film Fan (Morden, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Two days after buying my iPod Touch I listed my PDA for sale on eBay; as well as playing music this little beauty does everything I ever used my PDA for. It synchronises perfectly with Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Safari on my Mac ... all through iTunes which is so easy to use.
The storage space is perfect for what I use the iPod Touch for. Where the 8GB and 16GB models are a bit too small in my view as I like to carry my music collection with me on my travels. But that's just my view.
It also does video play back, although some would argue that there are better portable video players around. But as I quite frankly have no intention to ever watch video on the go on a screen this size this is not a problem at all as far as I'm concerned.
When Apple recently released the latest version of the software for iPod Touch and iPhone this device suddenly became a lot more versatile. You can now download applications and games for the iPod Touch, and personally I quite like the odd game of Brain Challenge or Sudoku during my daily commute to the office.
The only downside to the iPod Touch is that I still have to carry a mobile phone with me. But until such time as the iPhone becomes available with 32GB memory and I can get on Vodafone or T-Mobile without having to pay a small fortune in monthly charges I'll quite happily stick with the iPod Touch.
As always with Apple iPod products the ear phones included can at best be described as adequate so investing in a decent set of 'cans' is almost a must. This is really the only thing that stops me giving this product 5 stars.
