1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with iPod Nano 1st Generation   January 6, 2009
Mr. James A. Robinson (Cheshire, UK)
Despite being advertised as compatible with the nano 1st generation (and some of the documentation agreeing), Belkin confirmed that this product was changed in sept.08 & is no longer compatible with the 1st generation nanos.

5 out of 5 stars Great gadget for price does the job   January 3, 2009

I live in the country and the autoscan found a frequency which I have yet had the autoscan have to adjust whilst driving around. It is really simple to use. Only downside is that you cannot use your ipod if it has a protective case on so you have to remove the case before inserting which isn't the easiest of things, but this aside I have kept the case off unitl I know I won't be using it in the car ie when on holiday, travelling etc.

4 out of 5 stars Great piece of kit with 1 draw back   January 3, 2009

This piece of hardware is great. It comes with a bunch of features and various extras to allow you to fit any of the iPod range to it.

I have an iPod touch 16gb 2nd Generation an it fits snuggly into the enclosure but not so tight that you struggle to remove the iPod.

Tuning is really easy using the Smartscan option and I like the inclusion of the two memory options so if one channel starts to get some static it's very simple to quickly switch over to the other. Manual tuning has it's own buttons and this item features a volume and quality boosting buttons. The first two just improve the signal strength / audio volume. It warns you in the manual that "Pro2" might distort louder tracks but i haven't had this happen to me yet. The last option changes the signal to mono and is designed to be used with spoken word and audi books. I've not used that yet but with music despite the mono sound did make the signal even clearer which surprised me.

My review reads as a 5 start rating but I've given this 4 stars for 1 reason alone. Unfortunately it's down to my car and where the recess of the cigarette lighter is. Because it is set back and is neatly hidden away this heavily restricts where I can have the Tunebase so it is either slightly in the way of the gear stick in first gear or touching my left knee when I'm driving (a distraction which on long journeys I feel would be quite frustrating). Just so that people have a heads up my car is a Jaguar X-Type. I'm sure most people have not had this problem but I felt it best to state my car to give other X-Type owners fore warning.

I think this is easily solved by buying a solid extender so you do not lose the rigidity of the tune base which is excellent but allows you to better position it. This is something I'm going to try very soon.

All in all a great piece of kit though.

1 out of 5 stars Clear Scan doesn't work but cradle looks good!!   December 31, 2008

Like others I did my research and looked at the reviews so purchased this product. I previously had an ipod fm transmitter which you had to search for channels manually and I could never quite get the perfect frequency. What I did find was the further away from the radio you were the clearer the sound from the ipod. With the Belkin ipod TunebaseFM the clear scan just did not pick up any 'clear' areas, in fact a couple of times it found frequencies which were actual radio stations!! I also found that if you were to touch the Tunebase a lot of the interference was removed. I don't know if it is a faulty piece of kit or whether there is an issue having an fm transmitter near to your radio? My power source is directly underneath my radio. Maybe other customers have not had the same difficulties because of this. Cradle looks good and display is clear but that's about it's only positive features for me :-(

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Gizmo   December 29, 2008
S. Fawbert (UK)
Bought this for my Ipod Classic 80gb.

Brilliant gizmo, does exactly what you it should do.

Holds the Ipod nice and tight, charges the Ipod and of course most importantly plays your music through the car stero. Just drove from the East coast (Darlington) to the West coast (Whitehaven) and back and I didn't have to change frequencies once!

Excellent!
