Ghost saved my rig from the brink! January 6, 2009 D. Hodge (Belfast, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The ghost saved my Vista64 rig and all the blonde hairs on my frustrated head. After suffering a nightmare weekend with non-functioning ATI display drivers, downloading dodgy "fix" tools & patches that caused more problems than they were worth, my pc was fast approaching unworkable. All was nearly lost, I even contemplated reinstalling Vista, then I remembered I was using Norton Ghost. I looked at the backups and one was made 16 days prior. Ghost works in the background and periodically can backup your main drive, or whatever else you choose. Using the recovery disc it was a breeze and the end result was my pc as it was 16 days previous. Flawless. Took only 18 minutes. Absolutely essential. I will never, EVER knock Norton Ghost.
Please do NOT buy!!! December 30, 2008 S. White (UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been using various versions of Norton Ghost for the last 5 years.
Norton Ghost 14.0 is not the Norton Ghost application! This is a Symantec knock off, using the brand name as a cover.
For any technical folk out there: It does not use the Ghost.exe application and can not perform most of the basic functions that I expect from this brand. It does not use the .gho file format. It does not understand the difference between a partition and a drive. You can not create a Ghost Boot Disk.
This is simply a file copying program, which you can do with Windows Explorer or Windows built in restore points.
Trust me folks, don't waste your time. This is a zero rating.
Not as good as version 9 December 2, 2008 THEMUSIC (London) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Semperon 1.8 . 2Gb mem. XP sp3.I have used Ghost 9 since it came out and it has saved me many a time. Restoring a C drive in 15 mins. This program ghost 14 was going to take over two hours this morning until I killed it. The lights out restore estimate was 5 yes 5 hours. Can you believe it. Sure it backed up my partitions ok quite quickly but the restore times are unacceptable. I have returned it for a refund, and shall either stick with version 9 or look elsewhere.
Norton Ghost fault and support November 28, 2008 P. Shaw (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Norton Internet Security 2008 & Norton Ghost 14.0 (PC)Norton Ghost does not work on all computers. If you can be bothered there may be a fix but the support and information to fix the problem ('the program can't run while Windows is running'???)has taken me hours to find. I will try the fix tonight.
Not good enough November 22, 2008 Hawker (Bath, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The file backup functions of Ghost fail as soon as they encounter any 'error', such as a file which is open, locked or encrypted.
That should cover just about all the files you wish to protect from accidental erasure. Ghost should just press on and inform you of any files it was unable to back up. Instead, it sits there and waits for you to acknowledge the error message, then it stops. It does not even resume the backup.
As with Microsoft's own offering, backup files are in a proprietary format, therefore you can not easily restore them without using the same backup software.
So far as I can tell without having had a system drive failure, the "disc imaging" system which Ghost uses to restore the entire contents of a disc is quite thorough and it appears to do the business, but the rest of the suite offers nothing that you can not do better with a Maxtor "One Touch" drive and/or Explorer.
