Good Software. December 31, 2008 S. Humphery (Eastleigh, Hampshire, UK) I don't know whether it's just an age thing, but recently in my mid thirties I started to become more and more intrigued by the history of my family. My Mother and Father come from quite different backgrounds and as my Father died when I was quite young I know very little about his side of the family. This program was simple and easy to use. I had it up and running quickly, and to be honest with only minimal attention to the instructions I found it very easy to find my way around.
Once a few names had been entered, the software automatically started to find ancestry artefacts like my Father and Grandmother's Death Certificates. Some of these ancestry artefacts were included in the price, but pretty quickly the software started asking me for money to display additional artifacts it had located - some of which obviously were not relevant to my family tree (unless i've been lied to and my Grandad is really from Canada). This sofware should be considered the start of your Family Tree adventure, but get ready for a lot of work and additional expense.

this was fairly easy to set up and use but I am having slight problems intergrating my old family tree into this new programme. I'm hoping with more time I will figure it out, but the help page that your linked to wasn't that much help. You do get quite a bit with it although the packaging swaps the actualy product!! Very nice lay out, overall a good prodcut
Great product - easy to use December 18, 2008 Lumpster (Yorkshire, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hi, I got this piece of software as a present for a not-very-computer-literate family member who is building a detailed family tree and their overall feedback is that it's great - visually pleasing, easy to use and fulfills its purpose really well. Recommended.
...does what it says on the tin... December 18, 2008 Mr. H (Embra) After a spate of family deaths, it's fallen to me to try and pull together the strands spread far and wide, so this couldn't have come along at a better time. As someone new to the whole notion of genealogy software I was looking for something to hold my hand through a new experience. So, was Family Tree Maker 2009 Deluxe the right choice?
Well, yes-ish.
Installation was a breeze, something that shouldn't delight me, but still does, after wallowing in so many buggy products over the years. Now, to be fair, I had cheated and already had a pile of birth, marriage and death certificates to input, something that definitely helped. But once things were up and running, the learning curve was simple enough, although with a product as in depth as this one, there were a few WTF moments, as I toiled to understand what was expected of me.
However, the basics were dealt with well enough by the "Getting Started" guide, so that was enough to start a basic family tree. However, there does seem to be a multitude of ways to do the same thing. Having a single point of entry would help out novices like me. I also found the Interactive Training Tutorial not much cop.
But, so far, its turned out to be a fabulous package, which does everything I want it to, and doubtless a thousand other things that I don't know I want yet. But will. Highly recommended.
a late christmas present..... December 18, 2008 thementalmen (harpenden) With tracing your family background becoming popular due to the bbc programme "who do you think you are" this piece of software caught the eye. Having used the ancestery website online I can state that it's a useful piece of reference software but i'd struggle to call it essential - more of an extra than anything else. But if you find I'm related to you then I'll deny it.....
